Watching too much television can be very bad for children. This can turn into a bad habit as children would then be addicted and worst still, they might be influenced by the media. Not to say that the media is showing bad programmes but certain shows such as Jaws or other movies might influence the children's innocent mind. This might affect them as they might be afraid or have a phobia for swimming or even just by bathing. As a kid, i was also afraid of bathing as i watched too much horror shows. I keep imagining that instead of water coming out from my tap, blood would replace it. This is utter rubbish when i think back but at that age, i was too young to think this way and subconciously fell into believing what i saw in television shows will reflect on my daily life.
television is definately one of the media source that we should refrain from being too engrossed as we might accept the televised world as an accurate reflection of the real world. What more kids, they are still young and innocent thus too much television might cause them to experience cultivation. On the other hand, light viewers who presumably have alternative sources of information are less affected.

television is the easiest way to be passive to the media. thus as a child, i was also "banned" from watching television. my parents would only let me watch certain shows just to play safe and not be brain washed by the shows i watched.
However i did not include that television programmes like discovery can be a form of education to the children. but not everyone have cable television thus again we must think on the broader side.
yes i very much agree with you cassie but discovery channel definately educates the children but not all the time these children would watch discovery. they would definately want to watch cartoons or other shows to be kept entertained at their age.
i mean you*
Watching too much television would cause kids to wear spec too. Like you said, instead of water coming out from the tap, blood would replace it. i used to have this imagination too. I urge parents out there to show their kids cartoon channels instead of horror films. Kids should stay away from films that have violent actions. Am afraid that once they have grown up, they tend to be more violent. Violent may lead to unexpected behaviors.
agreed but there are always movies in the theatre that is rated PG and NC 16 etc. this also help to curb the brainwashing for all these children
SJ: agree to a super duper large extent! thats why there are movies that are rated PG and Nc 16 as mentioned by cassie. cartoons too can actually bring about violence take for example power rangers.
i'll still think that the best way to curb cultivation is to reduce the time watching tv but not the channels watched.
Well, since you mentioned it. Power rangers were old school. I mean, it doesn't show any effect to me but instead, I asked my parents to buy me power rangers toys. Man, I missed watching power rangers. Red ranger is the man!
LOL OVER YOUR RED RANGER. but nevertheless, power rangers potrays a lot of fighting scenes. there are also figurines of them as well as those toy swords. children might misintepret them and use it to hit others when they are angry.
take for example the toy gun. there was at one point of time there was this toy gun that could fit "bullets" ard the size of a bead. once loaded, the toy gun can actually shoot people and there is an impact. this toy gun was banned in singapore because one boy got shot in the eye and turned blind... although this can be fun but we need to take in considerations to the safetiness.
the media can influence the children into thinking that it is okay to resort to violence.
haha that 'toy gun.'. really back in the days man. i remember they comes with alot designs gun. well, i didn't purchase one as i think it was hell waste of money. i have this group of friends who used to play at neighbourhood muitl storey carpark. gun war, that it. it never gets tedious as it was really addictive, especially the guy you hated and felt like killing him. it's your best chance to do it with a not very strong impact gun that would only hurt bit. i'm not encouraging you people to do it but yeah. it's fun as i said. haha. 'counter-strike'
television actually makes your mind grow weak. but for me i think after too many years of weakening, i cannot help but give into the temptation of tv. but its entertainment! and if we can watch tv, why cant children. they too need their leisure and daily dose of entertainment.
i agree with you but watching of television should be controlled as it might cause cultivation.
