the newpaper, 24th June
This newspaper article is about the papaya sisters from 881, promoting their movie in Japan. A Japanese comedian pulling a stripping stunt on stage and Mindy Ong ( one of the papaya sisters ) could not comprehend his act of stripping. The Japanese however, found the entertainer amusing and laughed heartily to his acts.
This incident may havemisled the Japenese into sterotyping Singaporeans as very "conservative " and we are very " old fashioned chinese ". However i beg to differ as Singaporeans these days are exposed to a wide range of cultures ranging from the chinese to the malays to the indians and to the western ! This inicident may have shocked Mindy Ong as she is a girl and tend to be more conservative as compared to the Japanese entertainer. Furthermore, she was in a foreign country promoting the movie 881 and was shocked by the unexpected gimmick. If this newspaper report was published in Japan, i am sure that many Japanese may be misled blindly by the media into sterotyping Singaporeans because of their prejudice.

i read the newspaper article and i too would be taken aback by the entertainer's sudden performance. i would say that mindy was in shock thus she could not accept the performance. however, if she was warned before hand.. i would not think that there would be such fiesta over it.
different people have their opinions regarding this issue. the media chose to pin point on the fact that mindy could not comprehend the situation however they did not take in consideration that mindy was not aware of the performance.
i think that the media overreacted regarding this situation. they should be aware that the japanese would be sterotyping the singaporeans as mentioned, and this will not benefit our country.
i agree too but we singaporeans are really not conservative and old fashioned! and the media should actually fight back for that!
yes. media was over reacting! but then again, what can we do? the media can choose to publish anything they want and it is out of our control since we have no money and power :(
i'm sure if he did this in singapore, he would have been dragged away by the police and everyone will slam his actions. as we can see, our culture is different from the japanese in this sense
